Relief Funds

The community leaders have distributed funds to families with refugees several times in the last couple of weeks. The funds have come from generous donations to HAFF, UCI, Matthew 28 and WFTW as well as individual donations made locally.
Each time there are funds to disburse, members of the committee sit down with the most recent census papers from the chosen communities and determine how much money each family will receive. The amounts are based on the number of people the family has received from Port-au-Prince and vary from 250 gourdes for families with just one extra person to over 2500 gourdes for families with 15 or 16 extra people.

Once it is determined how much money each family will receive, the committee makes up packets for each family. The money is counted out, then wrapped and stapled into a paper labeled with the name of the head of the household and the community where the family lives. The packets are then divided between the committee members according to location and taken directly to the homes and put into the hands of the head of the household before the eyes of the people in the house.

For some communities that are farther away, the heads of each household are invited to come to a central location where the money is put into their hands. And for still some other distant communities, the money is confided into the hands of a leader of that community to be distributed to the people on the census form. Committee members make it known that they will be checking up to make sure that the funds got to their intended recipients.

Thank you so much, all who have given funds and may the Lord richly bless you and continue to provide. Please pray with us that the Lord would continue to provide the funds and supplies needed to start the move from direct relief to some rehabilitation and development, specifically some ideas for work in the community that can employ refugees, improve the land and infrastructure of the area and start people on the road to recovery.
