Teaching English at IPB
In January, HAFF intern, April Lambiotte began teaching at IPB, HAFF's Institut Pratique de Bohoc secondary school. The following report and photos are from her.
April works in partnership with IPB's Haitian English teacher, Mikerlande "Keket" Charles (standing in the back of her classroom in the photo above). Primarily, April teaches in the11th grade class. This class has several eager students, who are excited about learning English. Some of these students are also in an English study club hosted on Saturdays mornings by Carla Wilson . April's assistance with English pronunciation is helping to make a difference in the classroom. She also assists Keket to prepare and grade tests.

April (at the chalkboard in the photo at right) has also helped in the 12th grade class. At the end of their 12th grade year, students have an important national exam to take. Students can not be admitted to the 13th grade unless they pass this exam. April has worked on essay writing and reading comprehension with these students. Good test-taking skills are essential and April says "I love that I am able to give these students practical skills that go beyond just their study of English."
