Hanna, Ike and Josephine

Without a doubt, people are wondering how the folks at HAFF are weathering all the weather. Tuesday, September 2nd, Connie was able to talk to HAFF driver Elizert Vilbon. Elizert reported that everyone was well, though the rain from Tropical Storm Hanna Tuesday morning was more rain than anyone had ever seen. People were frightened by the amount of rain. Thankfully, there was very little wind.

When asked if the rain was good or bad for the gardens, Elizert replied that what gardens were left were destroyed by the rain. And he said he had heard on the radio that Gonaives (near the coast of the Bay of Gonave) is under water again. He said prices are higher and that people are hungry, but no one is sick. God's grace is apparent in not complicating the hunger with sickness. And Elizert was able to tell me the news with good cheer. The Haitians of the Plateau Central are an amazing people.

Hurricane Hanna is preventing Connie from returning to Haiti Thursday September 4th as she had planned. It might be possible, if Hurricane Hanna passes quickly and Hurricane Ike hasn't arrived yet, that Connie can return to Haiti Friday the 5th. Otherwise, she will have to wait till Ike passes, if Tropical Storm Josephine isn't in the way by that time! Please keep the people of Gonaives and elsewhere in Haiti in your prayers as well as all the others in the path of these storms.
