22 October 2008

The sweet sound of 9 pastors' voices lifted in harmony filled the porch of the HAFF visitors dorm. They sang,
"Le nom de Jésus est si doux! (The name of Jesus is so sweet!)
De Dieu désarmant le courroux, (Disarming the ire of God,)
Il nous appelle au rendez-vous, (It calls us to the appointment,)
Précieux nom de Jésus! (Precious name of Jesus!)
Refrain
Jésus! Béni soit ton nom! (Jesus! Blessed be your name!)
Jésus! Oh! Merveilleux don! (Jesus! Oh! Marvelous gift!)
Jésus! Suprême rançon, (Jesus! Supreme ransom,)
Sois adoré pour toujours." (May it be adored for always.)

This was the response of the leaders of 9 local churches to hearing the news that each church will receive a gift from HAFF for their church benevolence fund. When the verse and chorus came to an end, the men recited the 23rd Psalm. Finally, they prayed for the HAFF staff in Haiti, the HAFF board in the US and for the donors to HAFF, that they would be blessed and never know want themselves because of the sacrifice made to help their Haitian brothers and sisters.

Haitian members of the HAFF Ministry Team also benefited from the gift as they received "economic stimulus gifts" for their families. The expressions of gratitude to God first, HAFF and the donors second, were many and often lengthy!

The HAFF benevolence committee also is receiving funds to distribute to those most in need. This is lifting a huge burden for them and giving them the means to help the many people who are knocking at their doors every day.

We thank so many who responded to our recent matching gift challenge (see 21 July 2008 post). We are happy to report that God allowed HAFF to obtain the $10,000 match challenge -- which was later extended to $17,000 -- and more. We praise God for these generous folks and their support! The funds are being used in relief measures for local people, as described above, as well as to help meet the continuing needs of HAFF in this lean economic time.
