Tropical Storm Chantal

Wednesday Carla Wilson sent an email to the HAFF US Board of Directors and US staff asking for prayer.

The 13th grade class.
She reported that the 13th grade students are stranded in Grand Riviere du Nord in the midst of taking their national exams. She wrote, “The [Haitian] government decided to cancel the rest of the ... tests for this week and will start again next Monday because of the damage the cyclone (Tropical Storm Chantal) could cause.” Even with normal, non-tropical rains in the summer, there is a danger of rivers and small streams rising and flowing with much greater current than normal. Debris also gets carried along with the flow – downed trees and branches as well as other items washed into the streams like bags of charcoal or cut lumber. The government doesn’t want any students to get hurt crossing rivers so everyone was asked to stay where they are.

Dieugrand Major, the teacher staying with
the students in Grand Rivier du Nord.
The US and Haitian staff at HAFF found this out 10 minutes before the rain started falling in Bohoc. It was then too late to go get the students without risking some kind of danger. The students have enough money and supplies to last until midday Friday. As soon as possible, the staff will be taking money and wood for cooking to the students, so they are supplied for the five days after that. It will cost HAFF approximately $800.00 US to supply them and the teacher who is staying with them.

This expenditure was certainly unforeseen, out of HAFF's control and not included in HAFF's already very tight budget. However, it was no surprise to God, nor is it out of His control. Please pray for these extra funds to be raised rapidly. Any extra money would go into the IPB school food budget. If God moves you to give, you can send donations to the address below or go to http://www.haff.org/Get_Involved.html and click on the Donate Now button to donate on line. Please designate your donations to the Hot Lunch Program.

Please pray also for the students as they wait for exams to resume. Pray that they will use the time wisely and won't get too anxious. Pray for the roads to be safe quickly so HAFF staff can get funds and supplies to them in a timely manner. Thank you so much for your prayers and your help.

By the way, all is well in Bohoc! Here is the address for donations:
