Stories From the Jesus Film Ministry

It has been called The Jesus Film Ministry. It probably should now be called The Evangelistic Film Ministry. HAFF has been showing the Jesus Film since 1995 and most of the churches in HAFF's service area have hosted a showing of that film at least once. In a recent conversation, program coordinator Joesse Accilien said that HAFF has shown three additional evangelistic films for a number of years.

Joesse travels to churches 3 or 4 times a month to show one or another of the films. Church leaders generally ask him to show a particular film. Sometimes a leader has a specific date in mind, other times, Joesse will choose a date. The churches are both near and far, in town and in the rural areas, large and small, established and brand new. The farthest Joesse goes to show the films is about 12 miles south east of HAFF – about a 30 minute four wheeler ride. While the Jesus film is in great demand at Christmas and Easter, as it explains the life of Jesus, the rest of the year the other three films are requested more often.

Joesse tells about the impact the films make. “One time I was showing the film Heaven's Gates and Hell's Flames. There was a Voodoo sorcerer who accepted Christ into his life. After the film, I went to his house and prayed with him and he gave me some things like 3 different colored handkerchiefs and I burned them near where I had shown the film, in front of everyone.” The colored handkerchiefs are symbols of vows made to the spirits worshiped in Voodoo and burning them is a sign that the sorcerer is putting his whole trust in Christ and no longer in the spirits.

Joesse is praying for continued support for this ministry. “In this way more people will come to find Christ, all for the glory of God.”
