HAFF Executive Assistant Derold Mompremier recently wrote to US Administrator Connie Curilla about a plan the HAFF Executive Committee (EC) has to make disciples of Jesus Christ in central Haiti. The EC had been pondering how they could work more effectively to realize the HAFF vision statement. Derold explained, “We saw that showing the Jesus film, the Young Leaders for God Class, the Godly Woman Class and offering seminars for pastors when we have a group of visitors is not sufficient for us to speak of making disciples.”

About a year and a half or two years ago, Pastor Mike Vauters of Lafayette, Indiana visited HAFF and discovered how thirsty the church leaders were for Biblical training. He came to the EC with the idea that it would be better if there was a more formal, ongoing course for leaders or pastors, even if it was only a week every six months. After three years the leaders would receive a certificate of completion. The EC enthusiastically embraced the idea and hopes other US pastors will want to make the same kind of multiyear commitment to a more intentional training for the leaders.
Derold went on to share, “we have already started with a group of 35 to 40 leaders from the community and surrounding areas.” In December 2013 Pastor Vauters studied the book of Revelation for a couple days with the leaders and he will return in June to study the book of Ephesians with them. Pastor Vauters has committed to coming twice a year for three years to maintain continuity with the leaders. Derold declared, “It is truly a great grace God has given us. We continue to pray because God has big plans for HAFF!”
