IPB Alumnus Joins HAFF Staff

Thanks to Carla Wilson

In July, HAFF was blessed with the services of a new employee. Estephene Orelus (pictured at left) has worked on a part time basis for HAFF as a translator and presenter for visiting Friendship Teams. He is a graduate of HAFF's secondary school, IPB and of HAFF's non-formal program Young Leaders for God. Estephene is also a Post IPB Scholarship student – he will be graduating this year with a two year college degree in Community Development.

Estephene is computer and internet literate, has strong English and French skills and comes highly recommended by the HAFF Executive Committee (EC) in Haiti and Administrative Assistants Derold Mompremier and Edouine Victor. IPB headmaster Phanรจs Charles, other teachers and the students he has tutored also speak highly of him.

When HAFF hosts visitors, Estephene graciously presents his testimony of coming out of voodoo. As he answers questions about voodoo, he always emphasizes God's victory over voodoo and His grace and mercy in saving Estephene. Estephene is engaged to be married in December to a young woman who has been teaching in the area and who also has a strong Christian testimony. HAFF missionaries Colin and Carla Wilson are thrilled that he has found such a loving and cheerful woman for his helpmate. In addition to his studies and his work, Estephene has been serving as a lay pastor in his home community of Cercady – about a two hour walk from HAFF.

Estephene will be filling a number of administrative gaps at HAFF. He will be mostly working at IPB where he will support the school administration and teachers as a substitute teacher, audio-visual technician helping with PowerPoint presentations in classes, possibly manning the school library for a few hours each week and encouraging and discipling teachers and students. In November he will substitute for English teacher Mikerlande (Keket) Charles while she takes maternity leave.

Other duties will begin for Estephene in October. He will spend 15 hours per week as a new Executive Assistant. In that role he will be assisting the EC, the Wilsons, Derold and Edouine as they have need. And he will also continue to work with teams as translator and presenter. With the Wilsons and the EC, please thank God for Estephene and keep him in prayer as he begins his work of service at HAFF.
