Christmas Cookies

Making Cookies
Baking cookies is a very special treat anywhere, and certainly is in Haiti. Most Haitian woman do not yet have ovens. The Godly Women class teaches women how to bake in dutch ovens over wood or charcoal fires, as well as in propane ovens. Thus, the women are prepared for future development as well as current realities.

On December 1st Estephene Orelus reported,

“Today after their worship and prayer time, the Godly Woman class studied Psalms 13 and 91, which teach about calling on God when we are in trouble. They shared examples from their own lives. Today’s activities included making Christmas cookies and learning to applique place mats.

Appliqueing Place mats
I interviewed Sylvie Marcellus who lives in Kayawonn [about a 40 minute walk from HAFF.] She is 21 years old and has a 2 ½ yr old son. Her husband is 32 years old, works as a carpenter and is a deacon in their church. Sylvie sings in the choir. They are happy to be living in their own house even though it is not finished yet.

She is very interested in what she is learning in the Godly Woman class. Like many other women, she would like to learn a talent that she could use to help bring money into the home.  She has thought of being a market woman, but they do not have enough money to get started in that business.”

Wishing you and yours a blessed Christmas and a wonderful new year.
