Of Conflict Resolution and Muffins

The Godly Woman class is part of HAFF's Community Education branch of ministries. The 8 month class meets for 7 hours on 2 to 3 days per month. Each session starts with devotions and includes instruction in practical subjects which gives the women skills to help provide for their households and to foster a home set apart for the Lord. HAFF assistant to the Executive Committee, Estephene Orelus recently visited the class. The following is a translation of his report.

“The Godly woman class recently had a wonderful devotion service with song and scripture. They read Psalm 13, and tried to discover what it says about how people can resolve conflict. They then discussed “How can this passage help us in our own lives?” One suggestion was to talk to God faithfully about your problems.

After that, they turned to their projects for that day. Each woman followed along with her own copy of the recipes as [program coordinator] Madam Gesson (left with yellow scarf) guided them in working together to make banana bread and muffins.  They cooperated well together, doing the various tasks in small groups while making sure everyone saw what was going on. For instance, they had to learn to measure ingredients and sift flour.  During this time they also cheerfully talked and joked with each other.

Madam Milouse Marcellus

I interviewed one of the women in the class, Madame Milouse Marcellus (right with pink bowl). She lives in Caiman, [a 15 minute walk from HAFF] and is 36 years old.  Her husband is studying to be an agronomist.  They have five children: four daughters and one son. Milouse says her favorite activity is singing.

Milouse spoke of some of the other projects the class has already done since they started in September like making aprons for cooking and some baby clothes. Milouse says she is very proud to be part of the Godly Woman class and hopes it will help her become a professional business woman.  She’d like to sell food – like rice, beans and oil -- in the market, but she doesn't have start-up money yet to do that. Her daughter would like to be a nurse, when she is finished with high school.”

Please pray for Madam Gesson and the ladies of the Godly Woman class as they seek to serve the Lord in their homes and through the class.
