Millet Seed and Manioc Distribution to a Farmer Group in La Bel Mer

Last fall (2009) God blessed HAFF with a great harvest of the drought-hardy, big-headed sorghum that we have been multiplying to give out into the community. This is one of the shorter season varieties that ripens in November which is when the rainy season generally ends around us these years.
HAFF’s drought-hardy, big-headed sorghum

Recently we had the joy of giving a Christian farmer group across the river, 10 coffee cans of this special large-headed millet, November millet. These seeds will be shared with each of the 35 members of the farmer group. At harvest, they will save some of the seeds to plant next spring, not only for themselves but also to share with others. We are especially excited because this community has been slow to adapt to the more viable November sorghum and really suffered in 2009 when there was no rain in December and January to sustain their traditional longer-season variety.
