Infrastructure Improvements -- Bohoc Training Institute

“But be sure to fear the Lord and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you.” 1 Samuel 12:24 (NIV 1984)

Students, teachers, parents and the community at large take great pride in the Bohoc Training Institute (BTI), HAFF’s secondary school. It is known for providing an affordable education while maintaining excellence in academics. Several new projects over the past year have helped to increase that pride, as the campus and buildings were given a face lift.

The Executive Team (ET) has been faithful in stewarding HAFF's resources and in maintaining and improving the infrastructure. Students, visiting teams, ET members and the Wilsons collaborated to wash walls to remove stains and dust, paint classrooms, and decorate the administration office with scenic posters and new chairs. One of the service projects for the Young Leaders for God class this year was to paint the room used for English classes and for the Godly Woman class.

The Wilsons report, “Several of our many trees are now sufficiently mature that they are dying or otherwise needing to be removed and thus provide HAFF with some excellent lumber. The Wood-Mizer sawmill given many years ago... can now be heard weekly cutting boards... Though not enough for a cash crop, HAFF generates many boards for our own construction uses.” Visiting teams have also helped build benches for the school using the wood cut at HAFF.

There are more infrastructure changes planned. In December 2012, the Executive Team reported to the Board of Directors that National Route 3, which passes directly by HAFF's front gate, will be widened sometime in 2013. This will require moving the HAFF fence approximately 22 feet. National Route 3 is the main interior route from Port-au-Prince to Cap Haitien, and is already getting very busy in Bohoc, even though it has not yet been widened or paved.

The ET also reported that “the fence on the side of HAFF along the corridor (foot path) will be indented toward the school and a pedestrian gate added so that students can safely wait there to be admitted” to school. That gate will only be open for a short time in the early morning on school days.
